Verdugo Park, 2000-05-06
A fine spring day in a very lovely park, captured in these pictures.
We were performing for a "hand-fasting" - a sort of trial wedding whose
tradition spans back several hundred years. The prospective couple would
agree to be bound to each other (figuratively) for a year and a day, and
at the end of this time they could call it all off with no harm done, or
they could decide they worked well together and get a real marriage.
We see these occasions more commonly at the Renaissance Faires, since
the hand-fasting tradition was in full swing during Elizabethan times.
At any rate, the event gave us a fine opportunity to play outdoors and
enjoy the open air.
